The Scrum master role coaches and guides the Scrum team, ensuring the team applies Scrum Principles appropriately and that the agile events take place. Maintains a high level of transparency of the work being carried out by the Scrum team.




Ensure that the Scrum team achieve the sprint goals and the commitment agreed within sprint planning


Organise the Scrum team to ensure key Scrum events take place and achieve their purpose


Run the daily Scrum meetings, ensuring there is active participation from the team


Run the sprint retrospectives and ensuring that the actions are completed and the learning and improvements are shared within the team, and to the wider community


Provide transparency on the team’s activity/progress through the use of shared tools and reports e.g. maintaining a visible and up-to-date Scrum board


Track and use empirical data of Scrum tram story points commitments and completion through historic sprints to inform estimating and drive for improvement in velocity


Identify and remove any potential impediments to the delivery of the agreed sprint commitment


Manage any emerging dependencies throughout the sprint, escalating where necessary


Participate in project initiation meetings and assist with the determination of project scope


Maintain and record a log of changes or clarifications that have been agreed throughout the life of the project


Maintain and monitor a RAID register for each project


Ensure the Quality Governance Process is followed by the Project team and evidence is available for both internal and external auditors


Ensure the teams remain focussed on their tasks by managing external distractions


As a team or business needs demand you may on occasion to perform other roles within the team such as Product owner or Business Analyst


Advocate and demonstrate the benefits of the Agile framework throughout the wider organisation


Recommend modifications to agile practices to enable the wider business to continually develop agile knowledge


Coach and guide the team during the sprint by reinforcing and encouraging the team the follow core agile principles of collaboration, regular communication and transparency


Build agile capability within the IT function by training team members in agile techniques


Provide a great service to all of our customers (internal and external) that is memorable for the right reasons


Treat personal data of our customers, employees and other individuals lawfully and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998



Experience and Knowledge



Able to apply agile analysis techniques specifically for defining and creating user stories, acceptance criteria and in particular how to run them effectively to achieve the expected sprint outcome


Demonstrable ability to lead, motivate and influence teams in applying agile principles and maintaining focus on development of high quality output to achieve sprint goals


Good understanding of software development practices such as BDD, TDD principles and continuous integration and web/mobile technologies


Excellent knowledge of agile Scrum methodology and practices


Experience of using work management tools such as JIRA & Confluence.



Qualifications



Relevant profession certification (e.g. Scrum.org PSM, Scrum Alliance SCM)
